State Rep. Cam Cavitt on Thursday was appointed by Speaker Matt Hall, R-Richland, to serve as a member of the House Appropriations Committee; Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE); Vice-Chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Military and Veteran Affairs; and as a member of the Labor and Economic Opportunity, and Corrections and Judiciary Appropriations Subcommittees.
“I’m glad that Speaker Hall has afforded me the opportunity to take a serious look at how EGLE is spending taxpayer dollars,” said Cavitt, R-Cheboygan. “We’ve heard stories of EGLE officials cherry-picking projects to approve, poor interactions with the public, and overall financial mismanagement. I’m looking forward to meaningful conversations to ensure tax dollars throughout the state budget are actually hitting their mark and having the intended impact.”
Cavitt, who worked as a Cheboygan County Drain Commissioner for 12 years, said he is thankful for the responsibility of managing the state budget and pulling back on wasteful government spending.
The second-term lawmaker was first elected to the 106th House District in 2022. His district includes the Northern Michigan counties of Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency, Presque Isle, and portions of both Oscoda and Cheboygan.
