House Republican amendments to the EGLE and MSP budgets were ignored by Democrat leadership Tuesday

State Rep. Cam Cavitt on Tuesday called out blatant partisanship by House Democrats after committee leadership rejected budget amendments that supported the Michigan State Police and allocated meaningful funding to rural Northeast Michigan. House Republicans proposed amendments to the Michigan State Police and Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy budgets, all of which were rejected by party-line votes.

“Democrats’ time in leadership will be defined by their outright refusal to support any area of the state that did not support them in the last election,” said Cavitt, R-Cheboygan. “Democrats are weaponizing the budget process to punish the portions of the state they don’t like. Our amendments today would’ve added safeguards for school safety grants and made long overdue and common sense changes to environmental regulatory paperwork. They were all denied by Democrat committee members who were too busy securing massive partisan carveouts.”

Proposed amendments included adding analysis transparency requirements for school safety grants, $1.5 million for Black River dredging and a jetty installation, and reforms for EGLE rulemaking and budgetary authority.
