State Rep. Graham Filler is helping local officials explore their options after the historic Elsie Dam collapsed on Aug. 19.

Filler recently toured the site of the dam, located on the Maple River in Duplain Township, west of Elsie, to view the damage. No homes were affected by the failure of the dam, which is more than 100 years old.

“I’m willing to do anything I can do to support Duplain Township moving forward,” Filler said. “I’m working closely with local leaders to learn more about state and federal grant dollars that may be available and what other options they may have. I am especially thankful for Duplain Township Clerk Dawn Levey for her tireless work informing the public about the issue and advocating for her community.”

The township is holding a special meeting at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 29 to discuss its options, including removing the dam or rebuilding it.
