Resolution highlights vital role counties play in delivering essential services.
State Rep. Steve Frisbie, R-Battle Creek, delivered remarks on the House floor this week in support of House Resolution 62, declaring April 2025 as County Government Month in Michigan.
“County governments are foundational to our daily lives, delivering essential services that directly impact the safety, health, and prosperity of our communities,” said Frisbie, a former Calhoun County Commissioner. “This resolution highlights the critical role counties play and encourages residents to become more familiar with and appreciative of the work carried out by local county officials and staff.”
House Resolution 62 recognizes the diverse and significant responsibilities shouldered by Michigan’s counties, including public safety and law enforcement, administration of justice, health services, disaster preparedness, infrastructure, parks and recreation, and elections administration.
“Our counties provide indispensable services such as supporting mental health care, maintaining public records, and providing programs for seniors and vulnerable populations,” Frisbie said. “By officially designating April as County Government Month, we celebrate the dedication and contributions of county employees and commissioners who tirelessly serve our communities.”
County Government Month has been recognized nationally every April since 1991, providing an opportunity to promote awareness of county functions and services.
“I encourage all Michigan residents to take time this month to learn more about their local county government and acknowledge the tremendous work being done,” Frisbie said. “Understanding the role counties play helps strengthen civic engagement and supports the ongoing effectiveness of our local governments.”
