Rep. Green celebrates ruling after 3-year fight to restore coverage
State Rep. Phil Green (R-Millington) released the following statement after the Michigan Supreme Court ruled that no-fault reforms do not apply retroactively. The court affirmed that the Legislature didn’t clearly indicate the statute applies retroactively, clarifying that neither statute applies to insured victims who were injured before June 11, 2019, when the law was passed:
“After concerns were raised by those I represent, I went to work advocating on their behalf. This is something I’ve been fighting to rectify for years, and it’s fulfilling to see this necessary distinction has finally been made.
“Crash and collision survivors and their families can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that their care coverage has been restored and their injuries will be treated as stipulated in their pre-existing contracts with their insurers.
“I remain committed to making auto insurance more affordable in Michigan, but not at the cost of health care coverage for those whose lives were turned upside down due to a crash or collision.”
Following new, partisan energy laws signed by the governor this week, State Rep. Phil Green reiterated the importance of his recently proposed legislation that ensures Michigan is acting responsibly and ethically.
