State Rep. Dave Prestin, R-Cedar River, on Wednesday earned House support for his effort to recognize May 18 through 24 as Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week in Michigan. House Resolution 108 was approved with overwhelming bipartisan support.
“EMS Week is a time to celebrate the courage, dedication, and lifesaving work of our paramedics, EMTs, and first responders,” said Prestin, a licensed paramedic who has worked as a first responder for over 14 years. “In the vast and rugged landscapes of the U.P. and our rural regions, these heroes face unique challenges—long distances, harsh weather, and limited resources. Yet, day after day, they answer the call, delivering critical care to our neighbors in remote townships, small towns, and isolated areas. Their commitment ensures that no community, no matter how far from urban centers, is left without hope or help in times of crisis.
“Michigan stands with our EMS heroes—on country roads and city streets alike, from the Keweenaw Peninsula to every corner of our state. This week, let’s show our gratitude for the men and women who save lives every day, ensuring that every Michigander, no matter where they call home, has access to the care they deserve.”
