State Rep. Ron Robinson (R-Utica) today supported the House plan to invest in K-12 school aid funding for Michigan students.
“This budget is about building a strong foundation for Michigan’s next generation,” said Robinson. “For the first time ever, we’re raising the foundation allowance to $12,000 per student. That’s the highest in our state’s history, and a $2,392 increase for every child, which means more classroom resources, stronger academic support, and greater opportunity for every student to thrive.”
The $21.9 billion K-12 budget makes strategic investments to prioritize student success, academic improvement, and financial transparency. It provides $12,000 in per-pupil funding for every public-school student and allocates $314.5 million in grants to help schools reduce class sizes, improve reading outcomes, consolidate facilities, and enhance infrastructure. To ensure accountability, schools will be required to submit annual reports showing how per-pupil funds are spent. The plan also strengthens school safety by incentivizing every district to employ at least one school resource officer.
In addition to increasing investment, the plan ensures that schools don’t use curriculums that promote race or gender stereotyping, it bans funding for DEI initiatives, and it ensures fairness in girls’ athletics by preventing biological males from competing in female sports divisions. These provisions are focus on what matters, student achievement, student safety, and supporting our teachers.
Utica Community Schools would receive an increase of $39,320,490 and Warren Consolidated Schools would receive an increase of $19,042,617.
“Students and teachers in Utica and Warren will see a meaningful difference with these increases,” said Robinson. “This is about going back to the basics. We are rejecting political fads of the past administration and bringing commonsense back to our classrooms. We are giving teachers the tools they need, keeping students safe, and helping schools achieve real results. It’s a responsible, practical plan that addresses the key issues for Michigan Families.”
