Rep. St. Germaine announces new House Caucus focused on supporting law enforcement
RELEASE|March 24, 2026

State Rep. Alicia St. Germaine (R-Harrison Township) announced the launch of the Michigan House Law Enforcement Caucus, a group of lawmakers committed to reinforcing support for law enforcement professionals and strengthening public safety efforts across the state.

“Our law enforcement officers and their families make tremendous sacrifices to keep our communities safe,” said St. Germaine. “With my husband being a retired Clinton Township police officer and having spent the last five years of his career as a school liaison officer, I’ve seen firsthand the pressures and dedication involved in this work. That’s why we need to ensure that law enforcement officers have the resources, support, and respect they deserve every single day.”

The Michigan House Law Enforcement Caucus will focus on advancing policies that:

  • Strengthen officer safety and increase penalties for assaults against law enforcement personnel
  • Support recruitment and retention through incentives, training, and career development
  • Expand access to mental health and wellness resources for officers and their families
  • Provide direct funding and resources to local police departments and sheriffs’ offices
  • Uphold the rule of law, protect victims, and address repeat offenses

“I have already introduced two bills that strengthen public safety and protection for our law enforcement officers,” said St. Germaine. “House Bill 4664 passed the House with bipartisan support but is now stalled in the Senate. The bill increases penalties for protesters who intentionally block traffic, putting officers and the community at risk. I also introduced House Bill 5574, which provides additional protections for first responders on the job, including stronger penalties for assaults and clearer legal safeguards. Both bills reflect the caucus’ mission to keep both our officers and our communities safe.”

Founding members of the Law Enforcement Caucus include Reps. Mike Harris (Chair), Brian BeGole (Vice-Chair), Mike Mueller, Steve Frisbie, Dave Prestin, Jay DeBoyer, Alicia St. Germaine, Phil Green, and Ron Robinson.
