Rep. Wozniak backs subpoena to hold MDHHS director accountable

Contact: Doug Wozniak

State Rep. Doug Wozniak (R-Shelby Township) today voiced his support for a newly approved subpoena that will compel Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Director Elizabeth Hertel to testify before the House Oversight Committee following months of growing concern over the department’s handling of critical services.

“MDHHS is responsible for safeguarding the health and well-being of children, seniors, and vulnerable families across Michigan,” said Wozniak. “When we see repeated failures and a lack of transparency, it’s our responsibility to step in and provide oversight to make sure people are being properly served.”

The subpoena follows alarming reports of systemic issues within MDHHS including children in foster care placed in unsafe conditions, unvetted housing arrangements, questionable use of taxpayer dollars, and breakdowns in the juvenile justice and Medicaid systems.

“If there is nothing to hide, then Director Hertel should be able to easily answer these questions publicly,” said Wozniak. “We owe it to Michigan families to ensure clarity and accountability. I look forward to Director Hertel’s testimony before the committee and finally getting Michigan some clear answers.”
